Defense Player Notes
For The Last 15 Days
Kris Russell, D, CAL4/18/2015 12:53:00 AM
Description: Flames defenseman Kris Russell scored his second goal of the playoffs on Friday.
Insight: It came on the power play, but unfortunately for Calgary, it didn't mean much as the Flames were behind, 3-1. Vancouver added an empty-netter to win, 4-1. The series is tied, 1-1.
Shea Weber, D, NAS4/17/2015 11:23:00 PM
Description: Predators defenseman Shea Weber left Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with a lower body injury and will not return versus the Blackhawks.
Insight: It's a big loss for Nashville. Weber had 15 goals and 30 assists with a plus-15 rating in 78 regular season games.
Ryan McDonagh, D, NYR4/16/2015 10:08:00 PM
Description: Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonaugh scored the game-winning goal in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Penguins.
Insight: McDonaugh took a shot from the point on the power play, and it just beat Fleury on his stick side. The shot didn't appear to deflect off anything, so it was probably a save Fleury should have made. The goal put the Rangers ahead, 2-0, at the end of the first period. Fleury and Pittsburgh responded, but the comeback fell short. The Rangers took Game 1, 2-1.
Kris Russell, D, CAL4/16/2015 12:36:00 AM
Description: Flames defenseman Kris Russell scored the game-winner with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation to beat the Canucks, 2-1, in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Insight: Russell took a shot from the point with about 29 seconds left, and it somehow beat Vancouver goaltender Eddie Lack. It was the only shot Russell had on net in the entire game.
Duncan Keith, D, CHI4/16/2015 12:28:00 AM
Description: Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to beat the Predators, 4-3, in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Insight: Keith scored on a shot from the point. It looked like Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne was screened and didn't see the shot. Keith also had an assist on the game-tying power-play goal from Jonathan Toews. Chicago fell behind, 3-0, in this game, but scored three times in the second and then scored the game-winner in double overtime.
P.K. Subban, D, MON4/15/2015 10:39:00 PM
Description: Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban had two assists and finished plus-one before receiving a game misconduct in Game 1 against the Senators.
Insight: Subban assisted both of Montreal's first two goals as the Canadiens took a, 2-1, lead early in the second, but Subban then took a baseball-like swing and slashed Marc Stone right above his gloves on his wrists. Stone looked badly hurt, and Subban received a game misconduct. Stone, though, returned shortly after, so some have speculated that he embellished the call a little. Even without Subban and already without Max Pacioretty, the Canadiens won, 4-3.
Andrei Markov, D, MON4/9/2015 10:19:00 PM
Description: Montreal defenseman Andrei Markov recorded two points Thursday against Detroit.
Insight: He had a goal and an assist, and now has 10 goals and 40 points through 80 games. Solid camaign for Markov.
Drew Doughty, D, LOS4/8/2015 10:07:00 AM
Description: Kings defensman Drew Doughty had a goal and an assist in the, 4-2, loss to the Oilers on Tuesday.
Insight: This is a costly loss, coming to one of the worst teams in the league. Doughty had two points but was also minus-two. He has been disappointing this season with seven goals and 38 assists in 80 games this season.
Mike Green, D, WAS4/5/2015 8:28:00 PM
Description: Capitals defenseman Mike Green had a goal and an assist in the, 2-1, victory over the Red Wings on Easter.
Insight: Green assisted Evgeny Kuznetsov's power-play goal in the first period and then scored in the second period. Green has 10 goals and 35 assists with a plus-15 rating in 70 games this season.
Aaron Ekblad, D, FLA4/5/2015 8:17:00 PM
Description: Panthers rookie defenseman Aaron Ekblad scored the team's only goal in the, 4-1, loss to the Canadiens on Sunday.
Insight: Ekblad tied the game on the power play at the beginning of the second period, but Montreal scored the final three goals of the game. Ekblad has 12 goals and 25 assists in 79 games this season.
