Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Chazz Anderson completed 23-of-39
passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns as the Buffalo Bulls outlasted the
Ohio University Bobcats 38-37 at University at Buffalo Stadium.
Branden Oliver was a workhorse for Buffalo (2-4,1-1 MAC), carrying the
ball 34 times for 179 yards with three touchdowns. Ed Young added 135 yards
receiving for the Bulls.
Ohio (4-2,1-1) was led by Tyler Tettleton, who completed 23-of-37 passes for
203 yards and a touchdown, and added 66 yards rushing and another score. Donte
Harden led the Bobcats' rushing attack with 89 yards and a touchdown on 14
Buffalo struck first, as Oliver rushed into the end zone from 12 yards
out with just under nine minutes remaining in the opening quarter to give the
the Bulls an early 7-0 lead.
Harden set the Bobcats up with solid field possession as he returned the
ensuing kickoff 67 yards to the Buffalo 20-yard line. Three plays later, Harden
rushed 13 yards into the end zone to tie the score at seven.
Oliver scored his second touchdown of the day from one-yard out to put Buffalo
up 14-7 with 2:20 remaining in the first quarter.
The Bulls extended their lead at the 7:42 mark of the second quarter when
Anderson completed a 36-yard touchdown pass to Alex Neutz to push the
Buffalo advantage to 21-7.
Ohio fought its way back into the game on the next drive, as Tettleton's 40-
yard touchdown run pulled the Bobcats within seven with 5:15 remaining in the
Buffalo found itself inside Ohio's five-yard line after a 58-yard
run from Oliver, but the Bobcats' defense forced the Bulls to settle for a
field goal. Place kicker Peter Fardon chipped it in from 23 yards out to extend
the lead to 24-14.
Ohio responded with a 27-yard Matt Weller field goal just before the half to
make it a one possession game going into halftime.
Ohio opened the second half with a heavy dose of Tettleton. He completed his
seventh pass of the opening drive to Riley Dunlop for a nine yard touchdown,
which tied the score at 24 less than three minutes into the third quarter.
Ohio took its first lead of the game midway through the third frame when LaVon
Brazill burst for a 67-yard run that put the Bobcats up 31-24.
Buffalo answered right back with a big play of its own, as Anderson completed a
90-yard touchdown pass to Young that tied the score at 31 with 7:17 remaining
in the third quarter.
Ohio took the lead back again in the first minute of the final quarter, as
Weller made a 46-yard field goal to put the Bobcats up 34-31.
With 5:45 remaining in the contest, Oliver rushed for his third touchdown, this
time from one-yard out to give Buffalo a 38-34 lead. With 3:23 remaining, Ohio
inched closer, as Weller made a field goal to shrink the Buffalo lead to 38-37.
Ohio had one last chance, but the Bulls' defense sealed the victory when
Richie Smith sacked Tettleton on fourth down with less than two minutes
