NCAA Game Summary - North Carolina at Duke

Durham, NC (Sports Network) - Anthony Elzy ran for 116 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries as the North Carolina Tar Heels escaped with a 24-19 victory over the Duke Blue Devils in an ACC battle at Wallace Wade Stadium.

T.J. Yates threw for 264 yards and a score while completing 28 of his 35 pass attempts in the win for North Carolina (7-5, 4-4 ACC).

Duke (3-9, 1-7) was led by quarterback Sean Renfree who threw for 242 yards and a touchdown. Renfree also coughed up two interceptions en route to the loss.

Duke opened up the scoring when Renfree found Austin Kelly for a nine-yard touchdown completion, giving the Blue Devils the early 7-0 lead.

The Tar Heels answered back on a five-yard touchdown scamper by Elzy, tying the score at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Kicker Casey Barth gave North Carolina a 10-7 advantage heading into the intermission on a 25-yard field goal which marked the only points of the second stanza.

Yates connected on a five-yard pass to Joshua Adams for a score and a 17-7 lead for the Tar Heels in the third quarter.

The quarter ended with Duke trailing 17-10 after kicker Will Snyderwine split the uprights from 21-yards out.

Shaun Draughn ran for a three-yard touchdown early in the fourth as the Tar Heels extended their lead to 24-10.

Duke chipped away after defensive lineman Charlie Hatcher caught Draughn in the end zone for a safety while narrowing the North Carolina advantage to 24-12.

Brandon Connette ran for a two-yard score to bring Duke's deficit to a 24-19 margin, but it wasn't enough as the Tar Heels held on for the win.
