(Saturday, October 24th)
Final Score: San Diego State 42, Colorado State 28
Fort Collins, CO (Sports Network) - Quarterback Ryan Lindley broke out with a
huge effort this afternoon, throwing a total of six touchdown passes in San
Diego State's 42-28 win over the Colorado State Rams in Mountain West
Conference play at Hughes Stadium.
Lindley converted 29-of-43 passes for a career-best 459 yards as the Aztecs
(3-4, 1-2 MWC) rallied from 14 points down to record their largest comeback
victory on the road in almost nine years. Also having a huge game for SDSU was
DeMarco Sampson who caught 15 passes for 257 yards (ninth-most in program
history) and three touchdowns.
The Rams (3-5, 0-4), who are winless in league play and have dropped five
straight decisions since opening 2009 a perfect 3-0, were paced by John Mosure
who ran for one touchdown and threw for another in the setback.
Mosure, who gained a game-high 130 yards and 20 attempts, started off the
day's scoring with a six-yard TD run, followed by a 40-yard TD pass from Grant
Stucker to Tyson Liggett. Stucker finished the contest 13-of-27 for 182 yards,
but was sacked twice and had to passes picked off.
The first touchdown for Lindley was a five-yard effort to Sampson early in the
second quarter, cutting the deficit to 14-7.
Near the end of the first half, CSU's Dion Morton logged a 19-yard touchdown
run to cap an eight-play, 80-yard drive and give the Rams a 21-7 edge.
In the third Lindley threw touchdowns of 33 yards to both Dominique Sandifer
and Sampson to tie the score at 21-21.
The final points for the Rams came on a bit of trickery as Mosure hit Zac
Pauga with a 23-yard TD strike.
Lindley and the Aztecs bounced back from the 28-21 deficit with the signal-
caller tossing a three-yard score to Preston King to close out the third and
then find Sampson and Alston Umuolo with 38- and 60-yard touchdown passes,
SDSU, which converted 13-of-18 on third-down plays, finished with a mere 72
yards rushing. The Aztecs entered this week's action with an average of just
68.3 ypg, ranking them 119th in the nation.
