Colorado Springs, CO (Sports Network) - Joseph Turner rushed for 72 yards and
a touchdown, as 10th-ranked TCU opened its Mountain West Conference schedule
by holding off Air Force, 20-17, on a frigid night at Falcon Stadium.
Andy Dalton completed 16-of-28 passes for 198 yards and was picked off once
for the Horned Frogs (5-0, 1-0 MWC), which has won its first five games of a
season for just the third time since 1943.
Jimmy Young had six receptions for 113 yards for the Horned Frogs, who
overcame temperatures in the teens to stay perfect on the season.
Connor Dietz rushed for 71 yards and a score for the Falcons (3-3, 2-1), which
suffered a 16-13 overtime loss at Navy last week. Dietz also completed 6-of-17
passes for 42 yards.
A 27-yard field goal by Ross Evans moved TCU to a 20-10 lead less than two
minutes into the final quarter, but Jeremy Kerley fumbled for the Horned
Frogs, setting up the Falcons inside visiting territory.
Dietz ran eight yards for a score with 57 seconds remaining, but TCU recovered
the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.
Turner scored on a one-yard run with 3 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter,
and it became 14-0 with less than four minutes remaining in the second on
Kerley's two-yard TD rush that capped off a 79-yard drive.
Jonathan Warzeka's 16-yard halfback option pass to Kevin Fogler for a
touchdown got Air Force on the board with 1:19 left in the half.
The Horned Frogs drove inside the Air Force 10 early in the third, but Turner
fumbled the ball away.
Evans booted a 38-yard field goal with nearly three minutes remaining in the
third for a 17-7 cushion, but Erik Soderberg countered by splitting the
uprights from 28 yards away two minutes later.
TCU has won six of the last seven meetings...Dating back to last season, TCU
has won seven in a row...The Horned Frogs host Colorado State next Saturday,
while the Falcons are home against Wyoming...TCU holds a 6-2-1 lead over Air
Force in a series that began with a scoreless tie in the 1959 Cotton Bowl.
