Athens, OH (Sports Network) - Quarterback Theo Scott completed 17 of 21 passes
for 324 yards and three scores, and ran for two touchdowns to lead the Ohio
Bobcats past the Temple Owls 35-17 at Peden Stadium.
The win gives Ohio (9-3, 7-1 MAC) the Mid-American Conference Eastern Division
crown and a spot in next Friday's conference championship game in Detroit
against Central Michigan.
The loss ended Temple's (9-3, 7-1) nine game winning streak after beginning
the season with two losses. The Bobcats extended their current winning streak
to four games.
Scott also ran for 69 yards on six carries. Taylor Price had three catches for
94 yards and Steven Goulet had five catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.
Terrance McCrae caught four passes for 56 yards and a score.
Temple's Matt Brown, filling in for the injury Bernard Pierce, had 25 carries
for 172 yards and a touchdown. Kee-Ayre Griffin chipped in with 10 carries and
69 yards with a score. Starting quarterback Chester Stewart threw for just 92
yards on 7-of-22 passing with an interception.
The Bobcats took their first possession 89 yards for a touchdown, a nine yard
strike from Scott to Goulet with 7:58 left in the opening quarter.
The Owls got on the board with 14:52 left in the second quarter on a 24-yard
field gold by Brandon McManus. Temple moved the ball 66 yards on 10 plays.
Ohio came right back with a 65-yard scoring pass from Scott to LaVon Brazill
with 13:26 remaining in the half. It took only three plays to cover 77 yards.
Brazill left the game with an injury and did not return.
Griffin's 17 yard touchdown run cut the Ohio lead to 13-10 with 3:03 left in
the second quarter. The touchdown capped off a 12-play, 74-yard scoring drive.
The first half concluded with the Bobcats leading 13-10.
The Bobcats took the second half kickoff and drove 73 yards on six plays to
increase their lead to 20-10. Scott ran 17 yards on a quarterback draw for the
touchdown with 12:15 remaining in the quarter.
With 7:00 remaining in the quarter, Scott connected with McCrae on a four yard
scoring pass. The Bobcats took a 26-10 lead after the six-play, 88-yard drive.
Temple's Brown found the end zone on a nine-yard run with 3:16 left in the
third. The touchdown concluded a nine-play, 66-yard drive.
The third quarter ended with Ohio leading 26-17.
The Bobcats' Scott scampered 43 yards for a touchdown with 10:02 remaining in
the game to make the score 32-17. The Ohio point-after was blocked for the
second straight time. It was the third failed extra point of the game for the
The Bobcats regained possession with an interception that led to a 38-yard
field goal by Matt Weller with 7:55 left in the contest to give Ohio a 35-17
lead. Bobcat quarterback Scott left the game with an injury after being
Ohio defender Gerald Moore intercepted a Vaughn Charlton pass to end Temple's
possession with 5:31 remaining.
