Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) - Riley Skinner threw for 361 yards and
three touchdowns to lead the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to a 30-24 victory over
the NC State Wolfpack in an ACC tussle at BB&T Field.
Skinner completed 31-of-45 pass attempts to lead Wake Forest (3-2, 1-1 ACC) in
the win, with Chris Givens hauling in eight catches for 113 yards and a score.
Russell Wilson threw for 275 yards and a pair of scores to lead NC State (3-2,
0-1) in the losing effort, but the Wolfpack signal-caller was also guilty of
two costly interceptions in the contest. Owen Spencer grabbed four catches for
102 yards in the loss.
The Wolfpack struck first in this one, as Wilson hit George Bryan with a four-
yard strike to jump out to an early 7-0 lead.
The Demon Deacons responded with a 27-yard Jimmy Newman field goal midway
through the frame, and NC State added a 30-yard Josh Czajkowski kick late in
the period to take a 10-3 lead.
A four-yard toss from Skinner to Marshall Williams early in the second quarter
tied the contest at 10 apiece.
The Demon Deacons took a 13-10 lead into the half as Newman connected on a
23-yard kick with 16 seconds remaining.
Wake Forest added to its advantage midway through the third with an 11-yard TD
toss from Skinner to Williams.
But a 14-yard scamper by Wilson minutes later pulled the Wolfpack to within
Skinner connected on a 25-yard toss to Givens early in the fourth quarter to
extend the Wake Forest advantage to 27-17.
The Wolfpack responded with a five-yard strike from Wilson to Toney Baker
midway through the period.
The Demon Deacons added a 21-yard Newman field goal late in the frame to
secure the 30-24 win.
Wake Forest picked up the victory despite rushing for a mere 30 net yards on
35 attempts on the afternoon.
