GAME NOTES: The Wofford Terriers hope to begin their season with an upset as they challenge the Georgia Bulldogs in a non-conference tilt at Stegeman Coliseum.

Wofford is coming off a 13-19 season that included a 7-10 performance versus Southern Conference opponents. The Terriers were one of the toughest teams in the nation on the defensive end, allowing only 59.1 points per game, but they managed to produce just 58.1 ppg themselves. Coach Mike Young led the team to a surprising road win over Xavier during its 2012-13 non-conference slate and has four starters from that unit back in the fold as he leads the team to Athens.

Coach Mark Fox will be looking to avoid a third consecutive 15-17 finish at Georgia, which is going to be difficult as he will be without the reigning SEC Player of the Year Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who is now a member of the Detroit Pistons. The Bulldogs also graduated three seniors from the team that won only two of its first nine games to open up the 2012-13 season.

This will be the sixth time in history the Bulldogs encounter the Terriers. Georgia holds a 4-1 all-time series lead thanks to its 62-49 victory when these teams last met in 2011.

The Terriers will need to be more consistent to be more competitive, but their offense should improve as Karl Cochran (15.6 ppg) progresses from a stellar sophomore campaign, during which he sank 78 attempts from 3-point range. Spencer Collins (12.4 ppg) showed he has potential to be an all-conference caliber guard as a freshman last season. Wofford has a solid post player to anchor the rebounding effort in Lee Skinner (10.3 ppg, 7.4 rpg), but its point guard play could be shaky as true freshman Eric Garcia of Aurora, Colorado is expected to start from day one.

Caldwell-Pope accounted for a higher percentage of his team's shots than any other player in a major conference last season. Sophomore guard Charles Mann is expected to be Georgia's new leader after an impressive rookie campaign landed him on the Freshman All-SEC team. Mann paced Georgia with 18 points against UNC-Pembroke on Monday to help the team win its only exhibition game. Kenny Gaines added 15 points, while Nemi Djurisic and Cameron Forte also reached double figures in the scoring column. Djurisic was the second leading scorer a season ago with 7.9 ppg and Mann was right behind him at 6.7 ppg to go along with a team-high total of 92 assists.

Although the Bulldogs are going to struggle when they enter SEC play, they should be able to fend off the Terriers for a 1-0 start. Wofford has a fighter's chance as Cochran is capable of leading his team to an upset with a hot-shooting night from beyond the arc.
