Athens, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Quincy Diggs came off the bench to score 20 points and grab seven rebounds as the Akron Zips took down the Ohio Bobcats, 83-80, in double-overtime Mid-American Conference action at the Convocation Center.
Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell netted 16 points on 7-of-19 shooting with eight rebounds for Akron (10-5, 2-0 MAC), while Pat Forsythe and Jake Kretzer each chipped in 11. Nick Harney scored 10 before fouling out of the contest. The Zips have now won four games in a row.
Maurice Ndour scored a game-high 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line for Ohio (11-4, 1-1), adding six rebounds. Nick Kellogg contributed 19 points and Travis Wilkins had 14 on 4-of-5 shooting off the bench. The loss snaps a four-game Bobcats winning streak.
Neither the Zips nor the Bobcats found their shooting rhythm in the first half. Akron hit 33.3 percent from the floor, while Ohio connected on just 30.8 percent of its shots. The teams improved to over 50 percent shooting in the second 20 minutes, and were tied 60-60 at the end of regulation.
With six seconds left at the end of the first overtime period, Diggs hit a jumper for the Zips to knot the score at 71-71. Stevie Taylor missed a layup at the buzzer for the Bobcats, sending it to a second overtime frame.
Akron outscored Ohio 12-9 in the second extra period for the three-point win. The Zips shot 46.7 percent in the overtime periods, and were 7-of-13 from the free-throw line. Ohio shot 35.7 percent in the extra frames.
Akron won the rebound battle 45-33, and held a 43-16 edge in bench points.
