Troy, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - George Fant scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds, and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers put forth a swarming defensive effort to beat the Troy Trojans, 60-51, in Sun Belt Conference action at Trojan Arena.
The Hilltoppers (9-5, 1-0 SBC) won for the fifth time in their last six tries despite Fant being the team's only double-digit scorer.
The Trojans (5-8, 0-1) were held to a dismal 28.3-percent shooting effort from the floor as they lost for the sixth time in their last seven outings.
WKU scored the game's first nine points and held Troy to 5-of-32 (.156) shooting in the first half, yet the Hilltoppers led by only a 21-17 margin at the break.
The Hilltoppers settled into an offensive rhythm in the second stanza, as they shot 55.2 percent from the floor and led by as many as 17 with eight minutes to play.
The victory was WKU's first at Troy since the 2007-08 season.
