Murfreesboro, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kerry Hammonds II netted a game-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders ran to an 80-58 win over the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners in Conference USA action at Murphy Athletic Center.
Marcus Tarrance came off the bench to score 16 points, while Reggie Upshaw Jr. contributed 12 points and five rebounds for Middle Tennessee (12-6, 2-1 C- USA). The Blue Raiders have won four of their last five contests.
Devon Agusi paced UTSA (6-11, 2-2) with 18 points, connecting on 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. Kaj-Bjorn Sherman netted 12 points with five rebounds, and Jordan Sims chipped in 11 points. The Roadrunners have lost two games in a row.
The Blue Raiders hit 44.8 percent of their shots in the first half, and took a commanding 37-23 lead into the half. UTSA shot just 30.4 percent in the first frame.
Middle Tennessee built on its impressive first half with an even better shooting performance in the second. The Blue Raiders connected on 50 percent of their shots from the floor, including 11-of-16 from the free-throw line in the period. The Roadrunners improved as well, but only to 36 percent shooting from the field.
Middle Tennessee had the edge in rebounding, 41-29, and in second chance points, 23-5.
