Mobile, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - R.J. Hunter scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Georgia State Panthers cruised to a 73-63 win over the South Alabama Jaguars in Sun Belt Conference action at the Mitchell Center.
Manny Atkins and Devonta White each contributed 14 points for Georgia State (9-6, 2-0 Sun Belt). White added five rebounds and four assists to his stat line as Georgia State extended its win streak to six in a row.
Ken Williams scored a team-high 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the loss for South Alabama (6-9, 0-2). Augustine Rubit recorded a double- double, scoring 11 points and nabbing a game-high 14 rebounds for the Jags. South Alabama has lost four straight and six of its last seven.
The Panthers held a slim 39-36 advantage in the first half on 40.7 percent shooting from the floor, including 8-of-14 from 3-point range. They also hit 9-of-10 free-throw attempts in the first stanza. USA shot 34.5 percent from the field in the first half.
South Alabama's shooting got worse in the second half, as the Jaguars hit just 6-of-22 from the floor. Georgia State's offense almost duplicated its performance from the first half, hitting 40.9 percent of its shots in the second frame.
Both teams were knotted in points in the paint at 16 apiece and in points off turnovers with 10 each. South Alabama held a decisive 41-28 advantage in rebounds, but could only manage a 31.4 shooting percentage for the game.
