Murray, KY (Sports Network) - Isaiah Canaan scored 21 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the Murray State Racers captured a 75-70 win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in non-conference action at the CFSB Center.
Ed Daniel accounted for 16 points and eight rebounds for the Racers (8-1), followed by Dexter Fields and Stacy Wilson with 14 and 13 points, respectively, as the team won for the fifth time in as many outings. Brandon Garrett chipped in with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds as well.
Brandon Harris, who entered the weekend averaging just 4.2 ppg for the Hilltoppers (8-3), responded with a game-high 23 points and six rebounds for the visitors as they had a six-game win streak snapped. Teeng Akol contributed 14 points and George Fant dropped in 10, as each cleared seven boards.
Both teams shot slightly better than 42 percent from the floor in the first half, but while WKU made only 1-of-9 shots beyond the arc in the frame, the Racers converted 5-of-10 on the perimeter, en route to a 33-28 advantage at the break.
In the second half MSU made good on 55.2 percent from the floor and slowly built a nine-point lead late in the contest, eventually claiming the five- point home win.
The difference in the meeting took place out on the perimeter where the Racers converted 9-of-18 opportunities, compared to only 5-of-25 by Western Kentucky.
