Stockton, CA (Sports Network) - Sama Taku finished with 14 points as the Pacific Tigers took down the Long Beach State 49ers, 71-51, in the Big West Conference regular season finale for both teams at the Spanos Center.
Colin Beatty added 10 points for the Tigers (Pacific 19-12, 13-5 BWC), With the win, Pacific clinched the No. 2 seed in the Big West Tournament.
The 49ers (18-12, 14-4) were led by James Ennis with 12 points and Deng Deng with 11 points. Long Beach State had already clinched the top seed in the Big West Tournament entering this contest.
Pacific shot 41.4 percent from the field and connected on 4-of-9 from 3-point range in the first half, as it took a 31-22 lead into the break. LBSU was held to 36 percent shooting from the field and missed all six of its 3-point tries in the half.
After intermission, the 49ers continued to struggle from the perimeter, missing all but one of their 10 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc. They finished the half shooting 41.4 percent from the field. The Tigers knocked down 48 percent of their field goal tries, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range. Pacific used a 16-0 early in the half to take their biggest lead at 27 points, and from their cruised to victory.
The Tigers outscored the 49ers, 27-3 from 3-point distance. The 49ers had a slight edge in rebounding, 35-33.
