Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - Chad White hit a three-pointer with three seconds left to propel the South Dakota State Jackrabbits to a 78-77 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd at Mack Sports Complex in the Hempstead subregional of the 2012 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.
Brayden Carlson led the way for South Dakota State (2-2), scoring 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. Wolters recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists, while White came off the bench to score 10 points, including the game-winner.
DeAndre Kane led four double-digit scorers for Marshall (2-2) with 19 points and also added eight assists. Elijah Pittman netted 16 points and grabbed 14 boards, while D.D. Scarver and Dennis Tinnon each had 10 points.
Both teams shot well in the first half and Marshall took a 41-40 lead into the break after a hard-fought 20 minutes of action. Pittman was the high-man for the Herd with 11 first half points. The Jackrabbits were paced by Carlton, who hit three outside shots and connected on all four of his free throw attempts in the first frame.
The Jackrabbits were down by five with 13 seconds remaining when Carlson hit a three to make it a single possession game. After Chris Martin missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw attempt, White found himself open on the left wing. Wolters, who had grabbed the rebound off of Martin's miss, dished the game-winning assist to his teammate to complete the last second rally.
Neither team led by more than six points in the second half, which featured eight ties. Marshall lost despite outrebounding South Dakota State, 42-29.
