Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 18 points from Andre Hollins, the Minnesota Golden Gophers downed the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, 65-44, a non-conference battle at Williams Arena.
For the Golden Gophers (11-2), Austin Hollins added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Jeff Beverly led the Islanders (3-10) with 10 points. The visitors shot just 35.4 percent from the field on the evening, including 1-of-15 from 3-point range.
Minnesota connected on 44.4 percent from the field in the first half and used an 18-2 run early in the first to go into halftime with a 32-21 advantage. It held the Islanders to just 37.5 shooting, including misses on all six of their 3-point tries.
The Islanders continued to struggle from the floor after halftime, making only 33.3 percent of their field goal tries and just 1-of-11 from beyond the arc. Minnesota shot poorly in the half as well, shooting 31.2 percent but did manage to make 4-of-12 from beyond the arc in the half. The Gophers opened the second period on a 15-1 run to take complete control of the game, and pushed their advantage to as many as 26 points en route to their sixth straight win.
The Golden Gophers dominated the boards, outrebounding the Islanders, 43-33. TXA&M-CC was plagued by 18 turnovers.
