Final Score: Miami-Ohio 63, Bowling Green 52
Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - Jon Harris led all scorers with 14 points as the 11th-seeded Miami-Ohio RedHawks upset the sixth-seeded Bowling Green Falcons, 63-52, in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at the Stroh Center.
Reggie Johnson came off the bench to score 12 points for Miami (9-21), which had lost its previous nine games. Will Felder added 11 points for the visitors.
For BGSU (13-19), A'uston Calhoun, Jordon Crawford and Chauncey Orr all netted 10 points.
Despite getting outshot from the field in the first half, 48 percent to 40.7 percent, Miami went into intermission with a 34-31 lead after shooting 6-of-10 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.
The RedHawks began the second half on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 12. The Falcons battled back to make their deficit just two, 49-47, with under five minutes remaining, but Miami would never let them get any closer, and it shot 8-of-8 from the foul line in the final 1:01 to seal its fate.
Miami will take on Eastern Michigan in the second round.
Final Score: Eastern Michigan 45, Northern Illinois 44
Ypsilanti, MI (Sports Network) - Jalen Ross drilled the game-winning 3-pointer in the final minute as the seventh-seeded Eastern Michigan Eagles held off the 10th-seeded Northern Illinois Huskies, 45-44, in the first round of the Mid- American Conference Tournament at the Convocation Center.
Da'Shonte Riley tallied 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, while Glenn Bryant notched 10 points and eight boards in the defensive struggle for EMU (15-17), which will face off against 11th-seeded Miami-Ohio in second round.
Aksel Bolin and J.J. Cravatta both scored nine points for NIU (5-25), which ended its season by extending its losing streak to 11 games.
EMU shot a lofty 57.9 percent from the field in the first half while holding NIU to just 30.8 percent shooting, as it took a 28-21 lead into intermission.
The Eagles led by 11 points with under eight minutes to play before the Huskies made their push, ripping off a 15-2 run to take a 44-42 advantage with 2:08 remaining. EMU answered with Ross's 3-pointer with 32 seconds left to retake the lead, and NIU missed its final three field goal attempts down the stretch.
Neither team was sharp from the foul line, as EMU shot 7-of-13 and NIU made only 7-of-18.
Final Score: Buffalo 74, Central Michigan 72 (OT)
Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Javon McCrea registered 21 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and three steals as the eighth-seeded Buffalo Bulls outlasted the ninth-seeded Central Michigan Chippewas in overtime, 74-72, in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Alumni Arena.
Will Regan netted 15 points and hauled in eight boards for Buffalo (13-19), which will face off against fifth-seeded Ball State in the second round on Wednesday. Tony Watson shot just 1-of-10 from 3-point range but still finished with 14 points and six assists, while Raph Thomas-Edwards added 10 points off the bench for the hosts.
For CMU (12-18), Kyle Randall shot 10-of-20 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line for 31 points, his second consecutive 30-plus-point performance. Chris Fowler was also stellar with 13 points, nine assists and five steals.
Buffalo carried a 30-26 lead into intermission after shooting 44.4 percent from the field in the first half, while CMU shot less than 40 percent.
The Chippewas opened the second half up on an 8-2 run to take the lead less than three minutes in. The squads remained within a possession of one another for most of the half until the Bulls pieced together a 10-2 surge to take a 65-58 advantage with 3:18 left to play. Buffalo led by three in the final minute before Randall drilled a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left to force overtime.
In the extra session, McCrea drained a jumper on Buffalo's first possession and it led the rest of the way.
Buffalo won the rebounding battle, 41-31.
