East Lansing, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The unpredictable North Carolina Tar Heels used a balanced scoring attack in front of a hostile Breslin Center crowd to knock off the top-ranked Michigan State Spartans, 79-65, in the marquee showdown of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Kennedy Meeks led five North Carolina players in double figures with 15 points while J.P. Tokoto added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Tar Heels (5-2), who never trailed en route to an NCAA-best 13th win over No. 1 ranked teams. Brice Johnson added 14 points and Marcus Paige and Nate Britt netted 13 apiece in the surprising upset. The Spartans (7-1) shot just 36 percent from the floor and saw their 35-game home winning streak against unranked opponents come to a sudden halt. Gary Harris had a team-high 17 points, Adreian Payne went for 16 and Keith Appling added 13 for Michigan State, which has dropped seven straight meetings against North Carolina.

Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - LaQuinton Ross scored 20 points and fifth- ranked Ohio State cruised to a 76-60 win over Maryland in an ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchup between future conference cohorts at Value City Arena. Three other Buckeye players finished in double figures and Ohio State (7-0) shot 52.1 percent from the field while leading nearly start-to-finish. Sam Thompson added 14 points to the victory, with Lenzelle Smith Jr. contributing 12 and Aaron Craft registering 10 points along with six assists and five steals. Maryland (5-3), in its final season as an ACC member before its move to the Big Ten, received 19 points from Dez Wells and 15 out of Evan Smotrycz. Charles Mitchell posted 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Montrezl Harrell led a balanced Louisville attack with 14 points as the seventh-ranked Cardinals topped UMKC, 90-62, on Wednesday from KFC Yum! Center. Chane Behanan tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds -- eight offensive -- while Chris Jones, Luke Hancock and Russ Smith all scored 10 points in the triumph, Louisville's (7-1) second straight after falling to North Carolina on Nov. 24. Smith added a career-best 11 assists. Nelson Kirksey and Martez Harrison netted 14 points apiece to lead UMKC (1-6), which has lost three in a row. The Kangaroos, who entered the tilt third in the nation averaging 10.8 steals per game, had just five.

Charlottesville, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Wisconsin one-upped Virginia's touted defense with a shutdown performance of its own as the eighth-ranked Badgers clamped down on the Cavaliers and rolled to a 48-38 victory in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Badgers (9-0) also struggled but nevertheless put a win in the Big Ten's column by limiting Virginia to a horrid 23 percent shooting performance. Josh Gasser led all scorers with 11 points while Frank Kaminsky added nine points and 12 rebounds to help Wisconsin continue its best start to a season since opening the 1993-94 campaign with 11 consecutive wins. Bo Ryan also picked up his 300th win at Wisconsin, becoming just the ninth coach to win that many games at a Big Ten school. Virginia (7-2) held the Badgers to 28.8 points below their season average but simply couldn't get anything going. Leading scorer Joe Harris shot 1-for-10 from the floor and London Perrantes' eight points led the team.

Villanova, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Darrun Hilliard scored 19 points on a career-high four 3-pointers, James Bell added 14 points with eight rebounds, and No. 14 Villanova continued its dominance over Big-5 rival Penn with a 77-54 victory on Wednesday night. JayVaughn Pinkston netted 13 points with seven rebounds and Dylan Ennis tallied 11 points off the bench for Villanova (7-0), which won its 11th consecutive game over the Quakers. Miles Jackson-Cartwright scored a team-high 17 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc for Penn (2-5), while Darien Nelson-Henry finished with 12 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Dayton, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Kavanaugh scored 11 points, Vee Sanford added 10 points off the bench, and No. 25 Dayton beat Delaware State, 56-46, Wednesday night. Following a nice 2-1 run in the Maui Invitational in which the Flyers (7-1) defeated No. 11 Gonzaga and California en route to a third-place finish, Dayton seemed to play down to its competition in this matchup. Tyshawn Bell and Casey Walker each netted 14 points in the setback.
