Final Score: South Florida 55, Providence 48
Providence, RI (Sports Network) - Victor Rudd Jr. recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, as South Florida notched a 55-48 win over the Providence Friars in Big East play at the Dunkin Donuts Center.
USF (15-10, 8-4 Big East) struggled from the floor but dialed up the defensive pressure, holding Providence to 31-percent shooting for the game.
The Friars (13-13, 2-11) lost for the seventh time in their last eight outings, spoiling a game-high 16 points from Vincent Council. However, Council was the only player in double figures for the Friars, who managed only 16 field goals for the game, including a 1-of-12 effort from beyond the arc.
Providence led by as many as five with 4:23 to play until halftime, despite shooting only 25.8 percent from the floor in the opening frame. However, USF put together a late spurt to take a 24-21 lead into the locker room at intermission.
The Bulls enjoyed their largest lead at seven early in the second half. Although the Friars were able to hang around, they could never quite get over the hump as they shot just 8-of-21 from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
USF held a 40-28 rebounding advantage for the game, while also enjoying a key 22-8 edge in bench points.
