NCAA Game Summary - Georgia State at Hofstra
(Saturday, February 4th)
Final Score: Georgia State 59, Hofstra 43
Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - Eric Buckner scored 12 points and blocked six shots to break the all-time school record, and Georgia State claimed a 59-43 win over the Hofstra Pride in Colonial Athletic Association play at the Mack Sports Complex.
In only his second season at Georgia State, Buckner has swatted away 129 shots to move past Zavian Smith (1989-94) for the career record. Devonta White scored a game-high 15 points, while Jihad Ali scored 14 and pulled down seven rebounds for the Panthers (16-8, 8-5 CAA), winners of two straight. Rashaad Richardson finished with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the perimeter.
Nathaniel Lester recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards for the Pride (8-17, 2-11), while Mike Moore scored 13 in a losing effort.
Georgia State went on an early 12-0 run to grab a 15-5 lead midway through the opening period. The Panthers would add another 12-2 spurt later in the frame to silence the home crowd and take a 33-18 lead into the break.
The Panthers sealed it with a 55-percent shooting effort from the floor in the second stanza. The Pride trimmed the margin to 46-39 with 10 minutes to play, but Georgia State answered with a three from Richardson and a layup from Josh Micheaux to bring the lead back to double digits, and it would stay that way until the final buzzer.
The Pride turned in an abysmal offensive performance, as they shot just 29.3 percent from the floor and made only 3-of-22 three-pointers.
