With four seconds remaining in regulation and the Grizzlies ahead by a single point, Ward sank the first of two free throw attempts for the visitors, making the score 69-67, but he missed his second opportunity which gave PSU one last chance. Racing down the floor, Gary Winston moved to the center of the court at the top of the three-throw line at the offensive end, but he lost control of the ball as the clock ran out.
