Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - James Haarsma finished with 12 points to lead the Milwaukee Panthers over the Butler Bulldogs, 53-42, in an Horizon League tilt at U.S. Cellular Arena.
For the Panthers (14-8, 7-3 HL), Ryan Allen added 11 points and Kaylon Williams dished out 11 assists.
Andrew Smith finished with 11 points for the Bulldogs (12-10, 6-4). Ronald Nored had nine points and nine rebounds in the losing effort.
Both teams struggled out of the gate. Milwaukee made just 30 percent of their first half field goals, including 3-of-10 from three-point range. Butler shot a little better, at 34.4 percent, but missed all seven three-pointers in the period, and clung to a slim, 25-24 lead at halftime.
The Panthers were able to shoot better after intermission, connecting on 48 percent of their shots from the field, but just 2-of-10 on three-point attempts. The Bulldogs continued to have problems finding their stroke, hitting just 20 percent from the field and just 1-of-9 from three-point range in the final 20 minutes. Milwaukee opened the half on a 13-1 run to take a 37-26 lead early in the second. Butler was able to cut their deficit to just three on several occasions, but the Panthers were able to push out their lead and coast to victory, snapping a two-game losing streak.
Milwaukee made 6-of-18 from the three-point line, including 3-of-14 in the second half. Butler made only one of their 16 three-point attempts.
