Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Jud Dillard and Kevin Murphy scored 22 points apiece, powering the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles to a 67-59 victory over Bethune-Cookman in final round action of the Las Vegas Classic at Orleans Arena.
Dillard and Murphy each hit eight field goals in the game for Tennessee Tech (8-5), which also posted an 81-68 triumph over Kennesaw State in this event on Thursday.
The Wildcats (4-10) snapped a four-game slide with Thursday's 61-52 triumph over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, but were unable to build off that with the loss to Tennessee Tech. Kevin Dukes led the way in defeat with 14 points. Anthony Breeze and Adrian Coleman chipped in with 11 points each. Breeze completed a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Tennessee Tech shot the basketball extremely well in the first half, connecting on 53.8 percent from the floor. The Golden Eagles trailed 20-14 at one point, but went on two significant runs, a 10-0 run to take a 24-20 lead and then closed out the half on an 11-2 run to take a 35-27 lead into intermission. Bethune-Cookman was only able to deliver on 34.6 percent of its shots over the first 20 minutes.
The Wildcats shot the ball a bit better after the break and were within one point with under two minutes to play, but Tennessee Tech hit its free throws down the stretch to pick up the win.
The Golden Eagles won the battle on the boards, 38-29 and shot a solid 51.1 percent from the floor in the game. The Wildcats forced 20 TTU turnovers, converting them into 25 points, but shot just 39.6 percent from the floor overall, including a 29.4-percent showing from three-point range (5-of-17).
