Late basket helps No. 12 UCLA hold off Wagner

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Luc Richard Mbah a Moute nailed a basket in the final seconds of the game as the 12th-ranked UCLA Bruins held off the Wagner Seahawks, 74-72, at Pauley Pavilion.

Mark Porter led all scorers with 19 points and also had five assists for the Seahawks (6-2), who had a four-game winning streak stopped. Durell Vinson chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds in the victory.

Wagner had tied the game up after Vinson hit one of his two free throws to make it 72-72 game. The Seahawks had a chance to take the lead as they took control of the ball after Vinson missed the second free throw. But, Jamal Smith's three-point attempt was no good and UCLA took possession.

Farmar found Moute under the basket and he put it in to give the Bruins a 74-72 lead with 14 seconds left. The Seahawks had one last chance, but Porter's long range three-pointer missed.

UCLA had a slight 35-33 margin to start the second half and increased its lead to 40-37 on a Afflalo jumper less than a minute in.

However, Wagner scored the next nine points and had a 46-40 lead after Porter hit two free throws with a little over 15 minutes to play.

The Bruins responded with a 12-2 run sparked by back-to-back layups by Afflalo and Ryan Hollins to take a 61-59 lead with 7:04 remaining.

However, Wagner continued to fight hard and knotted the game up in the closing minute to setup the final plays of the game.

The Bruins held an 8-7 lead early in the game, but Vinson hit a jumper to spark a 13-4 Seahawks run, capped off by a Matt Kittrell basket, to make it a 20-12 game with under 11 minutes remaining.

UCLA immediately responded with a 13-4 run of its own and had a 25-24 lead after Cedric Bozeman slammed it home with 5:55 remaining until halftime.

On Wagner's next possession James Ulrich hit a free throw to complete a three- point play to extend to a 27-25 lead. But, UCLA closed out the half with a 10-6 run and had a 35-33 lead going into the locker room.
