Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tiffany Hayes scored 23 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists to help the Atlanta Dream get back into the win column with an 89-80 triumph over the Connecticut Sun.
Angel McCoughtry added 25 points and seven boards for Atlanta, which ended a four-game slide and won for the first time since head coach Michael Cooper left the team to battle tongue cancer.
Cooper took a leave of absence on July 21 when his cancer was announced. The team was 0-3 under interim coach Karleen Thompson before Tuesday's win over the Sun.
Erika de Souza contributed 17 points and Sancho Lyttle had nine points and a game-high 14 boards for the Dream, who held off the Sun before pulling away at the end.
After Atlanta ran out to a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Sun battled back to make it a contest. Katie Douglas' layup with 4:41 left capped an 8-0 surge to draw the Sun within 73-71.
However, the Dream put the game out of reach by scoring 16 of the game's final 25 points. Hayes scored six points during Atlanta's run, which saw Lyttle hit a layup with 25 seconds left for the largest lead of the game at 89-77.
Kelsey Bone had 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Sun, losers in four straight contests. Alyssa Thomas chipped in with 17 points and Chiney Ogwumike tallied 16 points and six boards for Connecticut, which has dropped 11 of 13.
