Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Evan Longoria, third baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays, will replace the injured Chipper Jones on Team USA's roster for the semifinal round of the World Baseball Classic.
Jones was ruled out earlier in the week after suffering an oblique muscle strain on his right side after going 0-for-10 with six strikeouts in four games with Team USA, which will also be without second baseman Dustin Pedroia (left side), first baseman Kevin Youkilis (ankle) and reliever Matt Lindstrom (rotator cuff) for the duration of the exhibition.
Longoria, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, hit 27 home runs and drove in 85 runs last year for the Rays, while playing in just 122 games.
Team USA advanced to the semifinal round earlier in the week and will face Japan on Sunday.
