Netherlands shocks Dominicans again in 11 innings to advance

San Juan, PR (Sports Network) - Gene Kingsale scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th on an error by Willy Aybar, as the Netherlands scored a dramatic 2-1 victory to eliminate the Dominican Republic in Pool D play.

Facing Carlos Marmol, pinch-hitter Sidney De Jong hit a double off the wall in right-center, then scored two batters later as Kingsale dumped a single to right. Marmol threw wild on a pick-off attempt, sending Kingsale all the way to third.

Sharlon Schoop struck out, and Randall Simon was intentionally walked. Yurendell de Caster then drilled a ball down the first-base line which was misplayed by Aybar into foul ground. He recovered but not in time to throw out the runner, and Kingsale scored to end the game.

Leon Boyd allowed a run on one hit in 1 1/3 relief innings to nab the win for the Dutch, who advanced after posting their second win against the Dominicans in pool play.

Marmol took the loss for the Dominicans, who were eliminated after dropping two of their three games. Miguel Tejada went 2-for-3 in defeat.

The only other run of the contest came in the top of the 11th. Jose Reyes walked with two outs and scored when Kingsale misplayed a low line drive from Jose Bautista in right field, letting the ball roll all the way to the wall.
