Bouchard ousts Jankovic to reach Charleston semis

Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Rising Canadian Eugenie Bouchard took out former champion Jelena Jankovic in Friday's quarterfinal action at the Family Circle Cup tennis event.

The 20-year-old Australian Open semifinalist Bouchard toppled the second- seeded former world No. 1 Jankovic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 on the green clay at Family Circle Tennis Center, where Jankovic titled in 2007 and was last year's runner-up to the great Serena Williams.

The sixth-seeded Bouchard won five of the last six games to advance.

Bouchard is now 2-1 lifetime against Jankovic, who beat the Canadian in straight sets in the quarterfinals here last year.

Up next for Bouchard will be Andrea Petkovic. The 14th-seeded German battled past ninth-seeded Czech Lucie Safarova 6-3, 1-6, 6-1.

Saturday's other semifinal will pit 17-year-old Swiss qualifier Belinda Bencic against Slovakian Jana Cepelova. Bencic rallied to beat third-seeded Italian Sara Errani 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, while Cepelova, who shocked Williams in the second round, posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over 12th-seeded countrywoman Daniela Hantuchova.

The 2014 Charleston champ will earn $120,000.
