Raonic outlasts Tipsarevic for Chennai crown

Chennai, India (Sports Network) - Canada's Milos Raonic rallied to beat top- seeded Serbian Janko Tipsarevic and capture the title at the season-opening Chennai Open.

Sunday's match lasted over three hours and featured three tiebreaks, with the fourth-seeded Raonic hitting 35 aces en route to a 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) victory.

Tipsarevic and Raonic combined to save all 13 break point opportunities (9-4).

"It is only my second title. It is an awesome feeling," Raonic said.

Raonic, the 2011 ATP Newcomer of the Year, appeared in his third career title match. He beat Fernando Verdasco for the San Jose crown last February, then followed up the next week with a loss to Andy Roddick in Memphis.

Tipsarevic fell to 2-6 all-time in ATP finals.

"It was a great game of tennis," Tipsarevic said. "Nobody knew till the end who would win. Unluckily for me it was I who lost. It was just a matter of a few points here and there. Hopefully, next time I will get the better of him."
