Granollers into semis; Paire ousted in Morocco
Casablanca, Morocco (SportsNetwork.com) - Fourth-seeded Spaniard Marcel Granollers secured a berth in the final four, while third-seed Benoit Paire was sent packing in Friday's quarterfinal action at the $585,000 Moroccan Open tennis event.
Eighth-seeded Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez upended the Frenchman Paire 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), while Granollers came from behind to beat fellow countryman Pablo Carreno Busta 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-0 on the red clay at Complexe Al Amal.
Two other quarterfinals saw sixth-seeded Federico Delbonis top 2010 Casablanca runner-up Victor Hanescu, of Romania, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena drub Russian fellow qualifier Andrey Kuznetsov 6-4, 6-2.
Three of the four semifinalists hail from the clay court Mecca of Spain, as Granollers will face Argentina's Delbonis and Garcia-Lopez will take on Carballes Baena.
The 2014 Casablanca winner will claim $105,000.
