Anderson ousted in Casablanca
Casablanca, Morocco (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seed Kevin Anderson was upset by Romanian veteran Victor Hanescu in a second-round affair Wednesday at the $585,000 Moroccan Open tennis event.
The 32-year-old 2010 Casablanca runner-up Hanescu humbled the 6-foot-8 South African Anderson 6-4, 6-4 on the red clay at Complexe Al Amal. Anderson was last year's runner-up here to Spaniard Tommy Robredo.
Sixth-seeded Argentine Federico Delbonis avoided a second-round upset by outlasting Canadian qualifier Filip Peliwo, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.
An opening-round upset came when Kazakhstan's Aleksandr Nedovyesov knocked out seventh-seeded Dutchman Robin Haase 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, while eighth-seeded Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez reached the second round by beating Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6).
Additional first-round wins came for Spaniards Albert Montanes and Pablo Carreno Busta and Czech Jiri Vesely. Montanes was a runner-up here in 2007.
The 2014 Casablanca winner will claim $105,000.
