Delbonis wins opener in Chile
Vina del Mar, Chile (SportsNetwork.com) - Eighth seed Federico Delbonis was an easy first-round winner Tuesday at the Chile Open tennis tournament.
The world No. 61 Argentine cruised past fellow South American, Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay, 6-3, 6-4 on the red clay at Club Naval.
Meanwhile, Japanese Taro Daniel, a 21-year-old who was born in New York, took out 2010 Chile Open champion and fellow qualifier Thomaz Bellucci, of Brazil, 6-3, 6-3 and Colombian Santiago Giraldo erased Spanish qualifier Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-4, 6-2. Giraldo was a runner-up at this event in Santiago three years ago.
Also on Day 2, Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta got past Italian Filippo Volandri 6-0, 3-6, 6-1; Argentine qualifier Martin Alund topped Spaniard Albert Ramos 6-3, 6-4; Italian Paolo Lorenzi leveled Colombian Alejandro Gonzalez 6-2, 6-1; and Slovenian Aljaz Bedene overcame Frenchman Stephane Robert 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Bedene will face top-seeded Fabio Fognini of Italy in the second round.
