American journeyman Michael Russell doused his compatriot Young in come-from- behind 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 fashion on the grass at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Meanwhile, France's Nicolas Mahut, the 2007 Newport runner-up, topped Swiss Marco Chiudinelli 6-0, 7-6 (7-2); American wild card Jack Sock bested Russian Igor Kunitsyn, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4; Israeli Dudi Sela crushed Canadian Frank Dancevic 6-0, 6-2; and diminutive Belgian Olivier Rochus got past Japan's Go Soeda 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The Tennis Hall of Fame will welcome its newest members this weekend, including former world No. 1, three-time Grand Slam singles champion and Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Capriati of the United States, former No. 1 and three-time French Open titlist Gustavo Kuerten, and former U.S. Open champ Manuel Orantes of Spain.
