Wambach named WPS Player of the Week

Boca Raton, FL (Sports Network) - Abby Wambach scored four goals in two games as magicJack clinched a playoff berth in Women's Professional Soccer, and was rewarded with the Player of the Week award Thursday for a record seventh time.

The South Florida-based club's top striker and head coach scored two goals in a 3-2 midweek win over Sky Blue FC and netted two more in last weekend's 2-0 triumph at Boston. The victories lifted magicJack (8-6-2) into third place and clinched one of four WPS playoff berths.

Wambach won the Player of the Week award in Week 8 after scoring a hat trick for magicJack, and has previously earned the title five times in her first two seasons with the Washington Freedom.

Despite playing in just 11 games so far this season, Wambach has nine goals in WPS and is just one behind Western New York Flash forward Christine Sinclair for the league lead.
