Breakers sign forwards O'Hara, Washington

Norwood, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Breakers signed free agent forwards Kelley O'Hara and Nikki Washington, both first-round picks in the 2010 Women's Professional Soccer draft, on Thursday.

O'Hara played her rookie season with champion FC Gold Pride, who folded after the season, and had six goals and four assists in 18 matches. She won the 2009 Hermann Trophy at Stanford as the best female college soccer player.

"She is a goal creator and goal scorer and has a wonderful competitive fire and work rate," Boston coach Tony DiCicco said.

Washington was selected by the Los Angeles Sol, who folded shortly thereafter, then spent time with Sky Blue FC, St. Louis Athletica and Chicago Red Stars, while rehabilitating a torn ACL. She has yet to make her WPS debut.

"This year we will really get to see what she can do," DiCicco said.
