Loftus Versfeld Stadium

Loftus Versfeld Stadium

Host City: Tshwane/Pretoria
Population: 2.200,000
Stadium Capacity: 49,365

(Sports Network) - Located in the east of Pretoria, Loftus Versfeld Stadium is one of the oldest in South Africa.

It was first built in 1906 with the first concrete structure being completed by the City Council of Pretoria in 1923. It could only hold 2,000 spectators at that point, but it has since undergone a number of renovations to take its capacity to almost 50,000.

Loftus Versfeld is home to one of South Africa's top rugby teams, the Blue Bulls, while a pair of soccer clubs, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United, also call it home.

The stadium has hosted both Rugby World Cup matches in 1995 and African Cup of Nations matches in 1996, and it will be the site for five group-stage matches, as well as a round of 16 contest at this summer's World Cup.
