Ten-man Getafe edges nine-man Real Zaragoza
Aragon, Spain (Sports Network) - Diego Castro converted a penalty kick in the second half as Getafe edged Real Zaragoza, 1-0, at the Estadio La Romareda on Saturday in a La Liga match that featured three red cards.
Zaragoza had Romaric sent off after just nine minutes and Alvaro joined him in the 62nd minute, and Castro buried the ensuing penalty kick for the lone goal. Abdelaziz Barrada was sent off six minutes from time for Getafe.
Getafe won its second straight, while Zaragoza lost for the fourth time in its last five matches.
Rayo Vallecano 2, Deportivo 1
Madrid, Spain - Piti and Carlos scored inside the half hour as Rayo Vallecano defeated Deportivo, 2-1, on Saturday at the Teresa Rivero in La Liga to snap a three-game losing streak and four-game winless run.
Piti scored in the 18th minute and Carlos in the 29th for Vallecano, which was able to hold on despite a late first-half penalty from Pizzi for Deportivo, which lost its third straight.
Valladolid 1, Espanyol 1
Valladolid, Spain - Oscar Gonzalez scored nine minutes from time as Valladolid tied 10-man Espanyol, 1-1, on Saturday at the Jose Zorrilla in La Liga to move up to seventh in the standings, one place ahead of Real Madrid.
Verdu converted a penalty in the 70th for winless Espanyol, which went down a man late in the first half. Espanyol is at the foot of the table with just two points from seven matches.
Real Betis 2, Real Sociedad 0
Seville, Spain - Paulao and Ruben Castro scored and Real Betis defeated Real Sociedad, 2-0, on Saturday at the Benito Villamarin in La Liga for its fourth win this season.
Paulao opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Castro sealed the win in the 81st, sending Betis up to fourth in the table. Sociedad lost for the fourth time in its last six.
