Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Brazilian defender Evaldo has joined newly- promoted La Liga side Deportivo on a season-long loan from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, it was announced Thursday.

The 30-year-old left back holds a Portuguese passport and has also enjoyed stints in the Portuguese Liga with Braga, Maritimo and Porto.

"I come to the best league in the world," said Evaldo upon his move to Spain's top flight. "Deportivo is a great club. I am very happy here, many Brazilian players like Bebeto, Rivaldo, Flavio, Donato, Mauro Silva, Djalminha have been here ... huge stars."
