Dundee officially replaces Rangers in SPL
Glasgow, Scotland (Sports Network) - Dundee officially replaced Rangers in the Scottish Premier League on Friday.
With the league set to open the 2012-13 season Saturday, the clubs unanimously voted to allow Dundee into the top flight as a replacement for Rangers. Dundee finished second in the First Division last season.
"The member clubs unanimously approved the transfer of Rangers' SPL share to Dundee Football Club," a statement on the league's website read. "Dundee FC is now a member of the SPL."
Rangers "newco" will start over in the Third Division of the Scottish Football League. Rangers entered administration last year, and the club was reformed by new owners and must start over in the fourth tier.
