U.S. women rally to edge Australia
Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Alex Morgan and Shannon Boxx scored after half as the U.S. women's national team rallied to edge Australia, 2-1, on Sunday in a friendly at The Home Depot Center for their 13th straight win.
Lisa De Vanna scored in the first half for Australia, but Morgan tied the game 10 minutes after half and won a penalty kick that Boxx converted for the game- winner in the 63rd minute.
The United States will play Australia again Wednesday in Commerce City, Colo., in the final match under coach Pia Sundhage. Sundhage stepped down this month, and has signed a four-year deal to coach Sweden.
Under Sundhage, the United States won its third straight Olympic gold in early August with a 2-1 win over Japan.
