America suffers first loss at Santos
Mexico City, Mexico (Sports Network) - After starting its Mexican Apertura campaign on a seven-match unbeaten streak, America sustained its first defeat over the weekend, losing 2-1 at Santos.
America had won six of its first seven games to sit atop the league with two games in hand, and a goal from Raul Jimenez in the 14th minute put the team in front.
But Santos rallied in the second half and got the equalizer through Oribe Peralta in the 50th minute before Mauro Cejas tallied the winning goal 11 minutes later.
The win is the first for Santos in four matches, while America falls one point back of leaders Morelia, which claimed a 1-0 win at UNAM through a second-half goal from Hector Mancilla.
Leon joined America on 19 points after beating Veracruz, 1-0, with a sixth- minute goal from Hernan Burbano.
Luis Lorona's 74th-minute goal was enough for a 1-0 Queretaro win over Atlante, Tigres held on for a 1-0 win over Cruz Azul despite playing the final 37 minutes with 10 men, Jaguares scored three times in the first half of a 3-0 triumph over Atlas, Monterrey edged Pachuca, 1-0, with a 43rd-minute goal from Neri Cardozo, Guadalajara and Tijuana played out a 2-2 draw with Marco Fabian scoring the equalizer for Guadalajara in the 82nd minute, while Alfredo Talavera converted a penalty kick in stoppage time to help Toluca to a 1-1 draw at Puebla.
