Vucetich named Mexico coach
Mexico City, Mexico (Sports Network) - The Mexican national team announced Thursday that Victor Manuel Vucetich has been appointed as the side's new coach, two days after its World Cup qualifying loss to the United States.
The 53-year-old becomes the third man to coach Mexico in the past week. A 2-1 home loss to Honduras in World Cup qualifying on Friday signaled the end of Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre's reign, while Luis Fernando Tena, one of De la Torre's assistants, took the post on an interim basis but suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Americans at Crew Stadium on Tuesday.
Vucetich, who has managed a host of Mexican club teams, will be entrusted to secure Mexico's qualification to the 2014 World Cup. "El Tri" sits fifth in the CONCACAF qualifying table with two matches to go.
