Werner leads the way as Stuttgart downs Freiburg
Freiburg, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Timo Werner scored twice to lead Stuttgart to a 3-1 win at struggling Freiburg on Sunday, allowing Stuttgart to snap a four-game winless streak.
Vedad Ibisevic put Stuttgart in front inside of nine minutes when he stabbed home a cross from Christian Gentner at the near post.
Werner then made it 2-0 one minute later with a nice piece of individual skill as he beat two defenders on the wing before getting into the penalty area, eluding another defender, and firing a shot past goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.
Mike Hanke pulled a goal back for the home side in the 78th minute when he scored from 10 yards just one minute after entering the match as a substitute.
But Werner secured all three points for Stuttgart eight minutes from time when he notched his second goal of the match, leaving Freiburg with just one win from its first 12 games.
Mainz earned a 1-0 home win against Eintracht in Sunday's other match with Maxim Choupo-Moting scoring the lone goal on a header in the 88th minute to extend Eintracht's winless run to seven games.
