Augsburg, Germany (Sports Network) - Augsburg named Markus Weinzierl its new coach Thursday.

The 37-year-old Weinzierl, a former Bayern Munich amateur, joins Augsburg from lower-tier side Regensburg. Weinzierl led Regensburg to the Bundesliga 2 with a win over Karlsruhe in the relegation playoffs Monday.

Weinzierl will replace Jos Luhukay at Augsburg, which survived its first year in the Bundesliga with a 14th-place finish this season.
