PSG knocks off Lille to go top of Ligue 1

Paris, France (Sports Network) - Paris Saint-Germain moved back to the top of Ligue 1 on Sunday, posting a 1-0 win over Lille at the Parc des Princes.

Both teams battled hard in the opening 45 minutes, but neither side was able to find the back of the net.

It took a bit of luck on PSG's part in the 68th minute to find the only goal of the contest as Lucas Moura was taken down to win a free kick on the edge of the area. The ensuing free kick saw the ball deflect off Lille's Aurelien Chedjou and wind up in the back of the net, giving the capital club the lead.

Lille attempted 13 shots over the course of the 90 minutes, but PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu need to make just two saves to preserve the three points for his club.

With the result, PSG sits even on points with Lyon, but occupies the top spot on goal difference, while Lille is winless in its past three league games and remains in 11th place on 30 points.

St Etienne moved up to seventh place in Ligue 1 with a comfortable 3-0 win over Bastia at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. Brandao got things started for the home side with a goal in the ninth minute off a nicely-placed strike into the bottom left corner.

Les Verts held on to their slim margin until Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made it two for the hosts 11 minutes from time as he got on the end of a through ball from Josua Guilavogui and slotted it home.

Guilavogui iced it for the hosts with five minutes to play with a brilliant right-footed shot from outside the box to make sure his side claimed the three points. Bastia has lost two straight matches in league play to remain in 13th place on 25 points.

Henri Saivet's 58th-minute strike was enough to lift Bordeaux to a 1-0 win over Nice on Sunday at the Stade Municipal du Ray. Cedric Carrasso posted three saves for Bordeaux, which played without striker Yoan Gouffran after he completed a switch to Newcastle.

With the win, Bordeaux pulled even with Nice on 35 points, but claims the fifth spot in Ligue 1 on goal difference.
