Newcastle signs coach Pardew to eight-year deal
Newcastle, England (Sports Network) - Newcastle handed Alan Pardew an eight- year deal Thursday, locking up its manager through the 2019-20 English Premier League season.
Pardew, 51, took over Newcastle in December 2010 and guided the promoted squad to a 12th-place finish. Last season, he led Newcastle to sixth place to secure the honor as Premier League Manager of the Year.
Newcastle also signed assistant John Carver, coach Steve Stone and goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman to eight-year contracts.
"The club has awarded the long-term contracts to ensure it has the stability necessary to achieve consistent success in the Premier League and European club competition," Newcastle said in a statement.
Newcastle has eight points from five matches this season to sit 10th and plays at Reading on Saturday.
