Hong named South Korea coach
Seoul, South Korea (Sports Network) - South Korea has appointed former captain Hong Myung-Bo as its new head coach, the Korea Football Association announced Monday.
The 44-year-old has been handed a two-year contract to replace Choi Kang-Hee, who left his post last week after South Korea narrowly qualified for its eighth straight World Cup.
Hong has represented South Korea at four consecutive World Cups from 1990 and became a national hero as captain of the side that reached the semifinals of the 2002 competition on home soil.
