Elias leaves it late for Botafogo
Sao Paulo, Brazil (Sports Network) - Elias scored in stoppage time to lift Botafogo to a 2-1 win at Criciuma on Sunday, keeping the team within four points of leaders Cruzeiro.
A goal from Lins in the opening three minutes had the home side ahead, while Botafogo equalized in the 52nd through Octavio.
A point would have dropped Botafogo further off the pace, but Edilson set up Elias for the winning goal to keep the team in second place.
Cruzeiro kept its four-point cushion at the top of the table with a 1-0 triumph over Flamengo that saw Ricardo Goulart tally the lone goal in the 54th minute.
Atletico PR fell a bit further off pace after being held to a 0-0 draw at Vasco da Gama, and the club was joined in third place by Gremio, which edged Portuguesa, 3-2, with a penalty kick from Kleber in the 86th minute.
Internacional scored three unanswered goals to down Ponte Preta, 3-1, Neto Berola netted the equalizer in the 85th minute to help Atletico Mineiro earn a 1-1 draw with Vitoria, while Biro-Biro's goal in the 65th minute was enough for a 1-0 Fluminense triumph over Bahia.
Santos topped Goias, 1-0, courtesy of a second-half goal from Thiago, Alex scored twice in the first half of a 2-0 Coritiba victory over Sao Paulo, and Corinthians was held to a 0-0 draw at home by last-place Nautico.
