Fluminense tops Nautico to extend lead atop Brasileiro
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Sports Network) - Fluminense saw its lead atop the Brasileiro extended to four points after earning a 2-1 win over Nautico at the Estadio Olimpico Joao Havelange on Saturday.
Euzebio and Fred scored in the 38th and 45th minutes to take a two-goal lead into the halftime break.
The home side held that lead until the 81st minute when Kim pulled one back for Nautico, but the visitors were unable to conjure an equalizer in the final nine minutes.
Fluminense improves to 56 points on the season, but it moves four points ahead of second-place Atletico Mineiro after its 0-0 draw with third-place Gremio on Sunday.
Fourth-place Vasco da Gama was held to a 0-0 draw as well, failing to break through in its trip to Ponte Preta on Sunday.
Also on Sunday, Flamengo came from behind to earn a 2-1 victory over Atletico Goianiense, Clarence Seedorf bagged a brace in Botafogo's 2-2 draw with Corinthians, Sao Paulo edged Cruzeiro in a 1-0 home win, Diego Forlan scored the game-winner in Internacional's 3-1 win over Bahia and Gilberto converted a penalty at the death to power Sport Recife to a 1-0 defeat of Coritiba.
Saturday's supplemental action saw Portuguesa and Palmeiras pick up 3-1 road victories against Santos and Figueirense, respectively.
