Quilmes off and running after Boca thrashing
Buenos Aires, Argentina (Sports Network) - Quilmes got off to a cracking start in the Argentine Apertura season, thrashing 10-man Boca Juniors 3-0 at El Centenario on Saturday.
Martin Cauteruccio opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the match before Santiago Silva was sent off seven minutes later.
Boca kept within touching distance until the 61st minute when Pablo Garnier put the result beyond any doubt. Cauteruccio added insult to injury for the visitors, completing his brace four minutes from time with Quilmes' third of the match.
The result leaves Quilmes top of the Apertura table, tied with Velez Sarsfield on goal difference after El Fortin also claimed a 3-0 victory over the weekend, defeating Argentinos Juniors on Friday. Clausura champions Arsenal earned a 1-0 victory over Union in Friday's other fixture.
Saturday's supplementary action saw Colon edge Lanus 1-0, Racing exchange early goals with Atletico Rafaela in a 1-1 draw and Newell's play to a 0-0 draw with Independiente.
On Sunday, Belgrano gave River Plate a harsh welcome back to Argentina's top flight, earning a 2-1 win over the promoted side at El Monumental. San Lorenzo also picked up a 2-1 win over San Martin while Godoy Cruz and All Boys played to a 1-1 draw.
And on Monday, Guido Carrillo scored three minutes from time to help Estudiantes down Tigre 2-1 at the Estadio Florencio Sola.
